Job Title: Welders

Duties: Welders perform some or all of the following duties
-Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications.

-Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding (PAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), oxy-acetylene welding (OAW), resistance welding and submerged arc welding (SAW).

-Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.

-Operate brazing and soldering equipment.

-Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears and other metal straightening and bending machines.

-Repair worn parts of metal products by welding on extra layers.

Wages: $20 +. Variations depend on skills and experience. Annual income is approximately $50,000 to $60,000. Average 40 working hours per week. (Weekly hours may vary depending on climate, unions, and preparation of job sites)

Hospital and Medical Care Insurance: OHIP (after 3 months of starting work).

Others:

Spouses may apply for a work permit which is ‘open’ and will allow them to accept any job depending on whether or not a medical exam was taken. (except Construction Laborers’ spouses)

Temporary foreign workers are eligible for the same benefits and rights as Ontario workers.

Transportation to the work place will be provided by the employer.
