Duties: Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks, weighing over 4600 kg with three or more axles, to transport goods and material to destinations. Perform pre-trip inspection of vehicle systems and oversee all aspects of vehicles, such as condition of equipment, loading and unloading of cargo. Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes. Record cargo information, distance traveled, fuel consumption and other information in log book or on on-board computer. Communicate with dispatcher and other drivers using two-way radio, cellular telephone and on-board computer.

Wages: $20 +. Variations depend on skills and experience. Annual income is approximately $50,000 to $60,000. Average 40 working hours per week. (Weekly hours may vary depending on climate, unions, etc.)

Hospital and Medical Care Insurance: OHIP (after 3 months of starting work).

Others:

Spouses may apply for a work permit which is ‘open’ and will allow them to accept any job depending on whether or not a medical exam was taken. (except Construction Laborers’ spouses)

Temporary foreign workers are eligible for the same benefits and rights as Ontario workers.

Transportation to the work place will be provided by the employer.
