Job Title:Steel Workers

Duties: Layout, prepare and assemble structural steel and steel vessels, containers and miscellaneous components. Plan the sequence of tasks and decide how to cut the steel most efficiently. Determine the materials required and mark patterns. Use metal-working machines to cut steel, drill or punch holes and roll, bend or press steel into the desired shapes. Assemble and fit metal sections and plates together to form complete units and then fasten the components together.

Wages: $20 +. Variations depend on skills and experience. Annual income is approximately $50,000 to $60,000. Average 40 working hours per week. (Weekly hours may vary depending on climate, unions, and preparation of job sites)

Hospital and Medical Care Insurance: OHIP (after 3 months of starting work).

Others:

Spouses may apply for a work permit which is ‘open’ and will allow them to accept any job depending on whether or not a medical exam was taken. (except Construction Laborers’ spouses)

Temporary foreign workers are eligible for the same benefits and rights as Ontario workers.

Transportation to the work place will be provided by the employer.
