Duties: Measure surface areas to work out how much paint is needed. File holes and cracks or sometimes remove old paint and coatings before applying. Prepare surface with primer and undercoat. Mix paint to the required shade by hand or by using color matching equipment. Apply layers of paint by brush, spray, Artex, rag-rolling, graining and marbling.

Wages: $20 +. Variations depend on skills and experience. Annual income is approximately $50,000 to $60,000. Average 40 working hours per week. (Weekly hours may vary depending on climate, unions, and preparation of job sites).

Hospital and Medical Care Insurance: OHIP (after 3 months of starting work).

Others:

Spouses may apply for a work permit which is ‘open’ and will allow them to accept any job depending on whether or not a medical exam was taken. (except Construction Laborers’ spouses)

Temporary foreign workers are eligible for the same benefits and rights as Ontario workers.

Transportation to the work place will be provided by the employer.
