Job Title: Construction Laborers
Laborers possess core construction skills and provide support to journey persons and skilled trade persons.

Duties: Load, unload and relocate equipment and construction materials around construction sites. Erect and dismantle forms, scaffolding, ramps and catwalks. Mix, pour and spread materials such as gravel, concrete and asphalt. Assist trades persons such as carpenters, bricklayers, cement finishers, roofers and pipe installers. Tend or feed machines such as mixers, compressors and pumps. Operate equipment such as pneumatic hammers, vibrators and tampers.

Wages: $20 +. Variations depend on skills and experience. Annual income is approximately $50,000 to $60,000. Average 40 working hours per week. (Weekly hours may vary depending on climate, unions, and preparation of job sites)

Hospital and Medical Care Insurance: OHIP (after 3 months of starting work).

Others:

Spouses may apply for a work permit which is ‘open’ and will allow them to accept any job depending on whether or not a medical exam was taken. (except Construction Laborers’ spouses)

Temporary foreign workers are eligible for the same benefits and rights as Ontario workers.

Transportation to the work place will be provided by the employer.
