Job Title:Cement Finishers
Cement finishers ensure that final concrete product is finished and cured properly.

Duties: Smooth and level freshly poured concrete. Operate concrete finishing tools such as straightedges and floats. Familiar with use and maintenance equipment such as concrete cutting saws, concrete vibrators, compressors, tampers and jack hammers. Install anchor bolts, steel plates, doorsills and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete. Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure concrete surfaces. Repair, resurface and replace damaged sections of floors, walls, roads and other concrete structures.

Wages: $20 +. Variations depend on skills and experience. Annual income is approximately $50,000 to $60,000. Average 40 working hours per week. (Weekly hours may vary depending on climate, unions, and preparation of job sites)

Hospital and Medical Care Insurance: OHIP (after 3 months of starting work).

Others:

Spouses may apply for a work permit which is ‘open’ and will allow them to accept any job depending on whether or not a medical exam was taken. (except Construction Laborers’ spouses)

Temporary foreign workers are eligible for the same benefits and rights as Ontario workers.

Transportation to the work place will be provided by the employer.
